EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY ON THE PASS ING OF THE HONORABLE ALFRED 
ALBERTO GEMMA

WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the 1 
Honorable Alfred Alberto Gemma, our former colleague in the Rhode Island House of 2 
Representatives, and the beloved husband of Anna Gemma; and 3 
WHEREAS, A loving and devoted family man, Mr. Gemma was the father of Marcus 4 
Gemma and son-in-law, Shawn Malosh, Jessica Gemma-Murphy, and Joshua Gemma. He was 5 
also the very proud and doting grandfather of Caitlin Murphy; and  6 
WHEREAS, Mr. Gemma was the son of the late Angelo and Filomena Gemma, and the 7 
brother of Anna Cappello and the late Anthony Gemma, Joseph Gemma, Raymond Gemma, and 8 
his brother-in-law, the late Alex Cappello; and  9 
WHEREAS, After serving our nation with honor in the United States Army, Mr. Gemma 10 
had been the owner and operator of Gemma's Auto Body for more than five decades, and was a 11 
longtime communicant and member of St. Catherine of Siena Church; and  12 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alfred Gemma had a passion for community service. He 13 
served four terms as the Ward 7 Councilor in Warwick, and on April 13, 2004, he successfully 14 
ran for State Representative from District 20, a position he held for three terms. In addition, he 15 
had been a representative at the 1986 State Constitutional Convention, was on the Warwick 16 
Charter Review Commission and the Warwick Democratic City Committee; and 17 
WHEREAS, During his tenure in the House of Representatives, the Honorable Al 18 
Gemma was named Deputy Majority Leader and had also served as Secretary of the House 19

Corporations Committee, was a member of the Committee on Veteran’s Affairs, and a member of 1 
the Committee on Separation of Powers; and 2 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Al Gemma was a soft spoken and kind gentleman who doted 3 
on his family and was blessed with many loyal friends. He devoted much of his life in service to 4 
the City of Warwick and our State, and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it 5 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 6 
extends deepest condolences and sympathy on the passing of the Honorable Alfred Gemma; and 7 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 8 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Anna A. Gemma and Family. 9
