EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE P ASSING OF ROSE V. HARRIS

WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Rose V. 1 
Harris, the loving wife of the late Bennie Harris for fifty-nine years, and the cherished mother of 2 
our friend and longtime legislative aid for the House of Representatives who provides exemplary 3 
service to the people of this State, Michael Harris and his wife, Jennifer, and her step-grandson, 4 
Sage Lake; and  5 
WHEREAS, Born in the City of Woonsocket, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late 6 
Michael and Isabel Andrade, who had emigrated to the United States from San Vincent in the 7 
Cape Verde Islands. She was the sister of the late Alfred, Francis, Joaquin, John and Joseph 8 
Andrade, Alfred, and Antonio Costa, Ethel Lopes and Mary Amado, and leaves behind Cynthia 9 
Lopes, who was like a daughter to her, and many nephews and nieces; and  10 
WHEREAS, In addition to making a wonderful home for her family, Mrs. Harris was a 11 
hard-working lady who had been employed as an operator for the former New England 12 
Telephone Co. for seven years, and as a teacher's assistant for twenty-eight years with the 13 
Woonsocket School Department; and 14 
WHEREAS, In addition to her family and employment, Mrs. Harris enjoyed reading, 15 
shopping, and her beloved cats; and  16 
WHEREAS, Rose Harris was a woman of impeccable character and dignity. She could 17 
light up a room and lift the spirits of those around her with her joyful presence, her colorful and 18 
creative clothes, and her beautiful hair, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the good 19 
fortune to be part of her glorious life; now therefore be it 20

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 1 
extends deepest condolences on the passing of Rose V. Harris; and be it further  2 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 3 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Michael Harris and Family. 4
