RELATING TO TOWNS AN D CITIES -- ORDINANCES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 
SECTION 1. Section 45-6-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 45-6 entitled "Ordinances" is 1 
hereby amended to read as follows: 2 
45-6-7. Publication of ordinances. 3 
(a) All ordinances, bylaws and regulations shall be printed and published in any manner 4 
that the town or city council directs; provided, that the city or town clerk delivers shall file at least 5 
one copy of all ordinances including all amendments to those ordinances to the state law library 6 
and the state library within ten (10) days after being printed or published with the secretary of state. 7 
The ordinance or the amendment to an ordinance shall become effective upon filing. 8 
(b) The secretary of state shall create an online index of all city and town ordinances, 9 
including all amendments to those ordinances, in a form, numbering and manner to allow the public 10 
to view each city or town ordinance or amendment to those ordinances, and to compare ordinances. 11 
(c) Each city and town shall comply with subsection (a) of this section within one year of 12 
the effective date of this section. 13 
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 14

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO TOWNS AN D CITIES -- ORDINANCES

This act would require that all cities and towns file all ordinances and amendments to those 1 
ordinances with the secretary of state. Such ordinances or amendments to those ordinances would 2 
become effective upon filing with the secretary of state. The secretary of state would be required 3 
to create an online index which would allow the public to view all city and town ordinances and 4 
amendments to those ordinances. Each city and town would have one year to comply with this act. 5 
This act would take effect upon passage. 6
