2023 -- H 5821 ======== LC002435 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE P ASSING OF THE HONORABLE SANFORD GORODETSKY Introduced By: Representatives Azzinaro, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Kennedy, Costantino, Lima, Shallcross Smith, Ajello, and Fogarty Date Introduced: February 28, 2023 Referred To: House read and passed WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of the 1 Honorable Sanford Gorodetsky of Warren, the beloved husband of Barbara Blossom for 42 years; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky was born in Providence, the son of the late Louis and Sally 4 Gorodetsky. He was a graduate of Classical High School, Providence College, and earned a J.D. 5 from Boston University Law School. Prior to embarking on his legal career, Mr. Gorodetsky 6 joined the United States Army and served our nation with honor in the Pacific Region; and 7 WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky had a long and distinguished public service career. He 8 served with integrity as the Providence Director of Public Safety, as Chief Judge for the 9 Providence Municipal Court, and as a member of the Providence City Council; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Gorodetsky was a respected lawyer for 62 years and was professionally 11 recognized by the Rhode Island Bar Association. He was very active within the veterans’ 12 community and served as the Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the USA, Rhode Island 13 Chapter. He also served as a former Secretary for the Permanent Advisory Council of the House 14 Veterans’ Affairs Committee and was a member of the United Veterans Council, Disabled 15 American Veterans Chapter 15 in Bristol, and the World War II Monument Committee; and 16 WHEREAS, In his free time, Mr. Gorodetsky was a talented singer, band musician, and 17 actor. He performed on both the stage and screen, earning many acting credits in both television 18 and film. He was admired within the artistic and professional communities for his professional 19 LC002435 - Page 2 of 2 confidence and affable personality; and 1 WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Barbara, Mr. Gorodetsky leaves behind his sons, 2 Evan Gorodetsky and Brian Gorodetsky, his stepchildren, Robin Blossom and Perry Blossom, 3 and his sister, Lenore Gorodetsky. He was previously married to the late Harriet Gorodetsky; 4 now, therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 6 expresses its condolences on the passing of the Honorable Sanford Gorodetsky; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 8 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Barbara Blossom and Family. 9 ======== LC002435 ========
