MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $5,000,000 TO THE RHODE ISLAND DEPARTMENT
OF ENVIRONMENTAL MAN AGEMENT FOR THE PRESERVATION, PROTECTION, AND
CONSERVATION OF FARM LANDS

WHEREAS, Rhode Islanders have overwhelmingly supported the preservation, 1
protection, and conservation of our farmlands; and 2
WHEREAS, Rhode Island has depleted the previously available funds that were used to 3
support the preservation, protection, and conservation of farmlands; and 4
WHEREAS, In order to preserve, protect, and conserve Rhode Island’s farmlands, five 5
million dollars ($5,000,000) is urgently needed to rectify this situation; now, therefore be it 6
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 7
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of five million dollars ($5,000,000) 8
to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for the preservation, protection 9
and conservation of Rhode Island farmlands; and the state controller is hereby authorized and 10
directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum. 11

This resolution would authorize the appropriation of the sum of five million dollars 1
($5,000,000) to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for the preservation, 2
protection, and conservation of Rhode Island farmlands. 3
