RELATING TO CRIMINAL OFFENSES -- FALSE IMPERSONATION

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 
SECTION 1. Section 11-14-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 11-14 entitled "False 1 
Personation" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 
11-14-1. Impersonation of public officer. 3 
Every person who shall falsely assume or pretend to be a judge, justice of the peace, 4 
warden, deputy sheriff, alderman, member of any city or town council, city or town clerk, state 5 
court clerk, city sergeant, constable, correctional officer, any other officer of any city or town in 6 
this state as well as any out-of-state police, or the attorney general, deputy attorney general, 7 
assistant or special assistant attorney general, and shall act as such, shall be imprisoned not 8 
exceeding one year or be fined not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000). 9 
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 10

This act would provide that state court clerks be added to the list of public officers for 1 
whom falsely assuming their identity would be a criminal offense. 2 
This act would take effect upon passage. 3
