MAKING AN APPROPRIATION OF $2,000,000 TO THE RHODE ISLAND FOOD BANK

WHEREAS, In January of 2023, the Rhode Island Department of Human Services 1 
announced that the Federal Government was ending the COVID-19 SNAP (Supplemental 2 
Nutrition Assistance Program) Emergency benefit payments; and   3 
WHEREAS, As of March of 2023, thousands of SNAP households in Rhode Island, who 4 
rely on these benefits to put food on the table each month, especially now during one of the 5 
highest periods of inflation in the past decade, will only receive their regular monthly SNAP 6 
issuance; and   7 
WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Community Food Bank and its network of 155-member 8 
agencies provides food to people who are in need every day, and as SNAP benefits decrease, the 9 
need for the Food Bank’s assistance will most assuredly increase; now, therefore be it   10 
RESOLVED, That there is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not 11 
otherwise appropriated for the fiscal year 2023-2024, the sum of two million dollars ($2,000,000) 12 
to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank; and the state controller is hereby authorized and 13 
directed to draw his orders upon the general treasurer for the payment of said sum, or so much 14 
thereof as may be from time to time required, upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers. 15
