2023 -- H 6153 ======== LC002576 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N CONGRATULATING THE RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL T EAM ON THEIR OUTSTANDING 2022-2023 SEASON, AND WISHING THEM CONTINUED SUCCESS AT THE NCAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL D IVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL FOUR Introduced By: Representatives Hull, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Chippendale, Roberts, Alzate, Fogarty, Ajello, Kennedy, and Speakman Date Introduced: March 16, 2023 Referred To: House read and passed WHEREAS, The Rhode Island College Women’s Basketball Team has had one of the 1 greatest seasons in their school's history, compiling a sterling 28-3 regular season record and a 2 phenomenal 15-1 Conference record in the Little East; and 3 WHEREAS, At the Little East Conference Tournament, the Rhode Island College squad 4 continued their stellar play defeating UMass Dartmouth by the score of 66-60, and vanquishing 5 their arch-rival Eastern Connecticut State by nine points, 61-52, to secure the Conference 6 Tournament Championship; and 7 WHEREAS, In the NCAA Tournament, the Anchorwomen have continued their winning 8 ways and outstanding play. In the opening game they defeated Rowan University by eight points, 9 67-59, and defeated the University of Scranton by seven points in the round of 32 by the score of 10 62 to 55. In the Sweet 16 round, Rhode Island College defeated a tough University of Chicago 11 team by eight points, 64-56, to get to the Regional Finals; and 12 WHEREAS, In the Regional Finals, Rhode Island College met a Babson University 13 squad that had defeated the Anchorwomen in the regular season. This Elite Eight matchup was a 14 defensive struggle for much of the game, but thanks to a strong third quarter in which Rhode 15 Island College at one point scored ten straight points, the Anchorwomen finished the third quarter 16 with a commanding 41-32 lead and never looked back, winning by a score of 60-47 to earn a 17 berth in the Final Four; and 18 LC002576 - Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, The Rhode Island College Women’s Basketball Team has been led all 1 season by the outstanding play provided by Hailey Malozzi, Antonia Corsinetti, Izabelle Booth, 2 Dejah Middleton, Angelina Nardolillo, Claire Greene, McKenzie Field, Elli Cox, Madison 3 Medbury, Neleesha Meunier, Jayda Bing, and Jeniyah Jones. The team has also benefited all 4 season by the outstanding leadership and skillful coaching provided by Head Coach Jenna 5 Cosgrove, and Assistant Coaches Jhamal Diggs, Derek Shanks, and Claudia DeFaria; now, 6 therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 8 congratulates the Rhode Island College Women’s Basketball Team for their highly successful 9 basketball season and wishes them continued success at the NCAA Division III Women’s 10 Basketball Tournament Final Four; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 12 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island College Women’s Basketball 13 Head Coach, Jenna Cosgrove. 14 ======== LC002576 ========
