CELEBRATING "URI DAY" AT THE RHODE ISLAND STATEHOUSE ON MARCH 28,
2023

WHEREAS, Rhode Islanders are the fortunate recipients of the innovate and well-1
respected education provided by the University of Rhode Island (URI); and 2
WHEREAS, Considered a “major research university”, URI offers undergraduate, 3
graduate, and professional courses and degrees that prepare young people and adults to become 4
active problem-solvers who can adapt to new situations in our ever-changing world; and 5
WHEREAS, Comprised of four campuses and a diverse and vibrant student body 6
representing seventy-six nations, URI offers more than ninety majors, including “study abroad” 7
courses, and myriad summer and honors programs; and 8
WHEREAS, Faculty at the University are “distinguished scholars and researchers” whose 9
“excellence and commitment to their students” is unsurpassed; and 10
WHEREAS, Founded in 1892, URI is consistently in the top half of the rankings for 11
National Universities; now, therefore be it 12
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 13
celebrates “URI Day” and thanks the University and staff for the significant contributions they 14
provide to our State through research and programs that improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders; 15
and be it further 16

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 1
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Marc B. Parlange, President of the University 2
of Rhode Island. 3
