EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE 
JOSEPH LEWIS FARIA

WHEREAS, Joseph Faria was born in Madeira, Portugal, the son of Manuel and Maria 1 
Faria. He emigrated to the United States at a young age, and lived most of his life in the 2 
Blackstone Valley, first in Central Falls and later in Lincoln. He was the beloved husband of 3 
Virginia Faria; and 4 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Joseph Faria was elected to the Rhode Island House of 5 
Representatives in November of 1990, and served with distinction from 1991 to 2006. He rose 6 
through the ranks to become the Chair of the House Labor Committee; and 7 
WHEREAS, Mr. Faria was a hard-working man who strove daily to provide for his 8 
family and loved ones. He was an active member of the Teamsters, Local 251 for many years. He 9 
was self-employed and the owner of Quality Gym Service for forty years; and 10 
WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Virginia, he leaves behind his daughters, Alicia 11 
Pinto and her husband, Michael, Robin Miguel and her husband, Auguest, Kimberly Faria, and 12 
Jo-Ann Marino Turner and her husband, John, his grandchildren, Michael Pinto, Alyssa Miguel, 13 
Brenna Pinto, and Steven and Allana Marino, and his great-grandson Michael Anthony Pinto. He 14 
is also survived by his sisters, Cecile Torres and Carmen Cartier, and several nieces and nephews; 15 
now, therefore be it 16 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 17 
expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of the Honorable Joseph Lewis Faria; and be it 18 
further 19
