COMMEMORATING APRIL 30, THROUGH MAY 6, 2023, AS "NATIONAL SMALL 
BUSINESS WEEK" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

WHEREAS, America’s strongest economic growth in almost 40 years has been driven by 1 
the resilience of our small businesses who, despite a world-wide pandemic, continue to pioneer 2 
innovative solutions to our country’s greatest challenges and create opportunities for families and 3 
workers; and 4 
WHEREAS, From the storefront shops that anchor Main Street to the high-tech startups 5 
that keep America on the cutting edge to the small manufacturers driving our competitiveness on 6 
the global stage, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the cornerstones of our 7 
nation’s promise; and 8 
WHEREAS, When small business is supported, jobs are created, and local communities 9 
preserve their unique culture; and 10 
WHEREAS, This country and our State cannot resolve to create jobs and spur economic 11 
growth in America without discussing ways to support our entrepreneurs because this country’s 12 
32.5 million small businesses create nearly two out of three jobs in our economy; and 13 
WHEREAS, The President of the United States has proclaimed National Small Business 14 
Week every year since 1963 to highlight the programs and services available to entrepreneurs 15 
through the U.S. Small Business Administration and other government agencies; now, therefore 16 
be it  17 
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 18 
commemorates "National Small Business Week" on April 30 through May 6, 2023, in the State of 19

Rhode Island; and be it further  1 
RESOLVED, That this House hereby supports and joins in this national effort to help 2 
America’s small businesses do what they do best – grow their business, create jobs, and ensure 3 
that our local communities remain as vibrant tomorrow as they are today; and be it further  4 
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 5 
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mark S. Hayward, District Director, Rhode 6 
Island District Office – SBA.  7
