HONORING AND THANKIN G FATHER ANDREW G. GEO RGE FOR 40 YEARS OF
FAITHFUL SERVICE TO GOD AND THE PARISH OF THE CHURCH OF THE
ANNUNCIATION

WHEREAS, Fr. Andrew George was born and raised in Monessen, Pennsylvania, where 1
he grew very active in parish life at St. Spyridon Parish. He is a graduate of Hellenic College and 2
Holy Cross Seminary with a Master’s degree in Theology; and 3
WHEREAS, Since 1965, Fr. George has been active with Orthodox summer camp 4
programs with the Pittsburgh, Detroit and Boston Dioceses, and for five years, was also involved 5
with the Ionian Village in Greece, serving as Assistant Director for three years. He also traveled 6
with the Hellenic College-Holy Cross Summer Good-Will Tour for three summers, and served as 7
lay assistant to the priest and youth coordinator in Toledo Ohio; and 8
WHEREAS, Fr. George also worked with St. Spyridon Parish during a 6-month interim 9
of an assignment of a priest at the parish, and in 1977, he was ordained to the diaconate and 10
assigned to St. George community in Maine; and 11
WHEREAS, In 1983, Fr. George began his service with the Church of the Annunciation 12
in Cranston. Over the course of the following four decades, he proved to be an outstanding 13
administrator and spiritual leader. His perseverance and collaborative skills have provided his 14
parish and parishioners with numerous improvements and celebrations including, expansion of 15
the Rev. Peter Mihailides Community Center, accomplishing major upgrades to the Church 16
grounds, oversight of the Church’s centennial celebration in 2005, and enhancing the Church’s 17
interior for its 50th Anniversary in 2018; and 18
WHEREAS, In addition to his devotion to God and the Annunciation Parish, Fr. George 19

is a loving family man. He was the husband of the late Presvytera Maria, the proud father of 1
Anthony Nektarios and Kassiane Eleni, and her husband, Michael Campopiano, Esq., and the 2
doting grandfather of Giulian Andrew and Lucia Maria; and 3
WHEREAS, Father George has spent his life in devout service to God and through that 4
unification, he has served and blessed the faithful, enriched the spiritual lives of many Rhode 5
Islanders, and earned our total respect and admiration for his piety and service; now, therefore be 6
it 7
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 8
honors and thanks Father Andrew George for forty years of faithful service to the Church of the 9
Annunciation and wishes him good health and many more years of benevolent service to his 10
fellow man; and be it further 11
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 12
transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Father Andrew G. George. 13
