2023 -- H 6519 ======== LC002965 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N HONORING STEVEN LUKOWICZ ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE WITH COVE NTRY'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS Introduced By: Representatives Noret, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Casimiro, Chippendale, Nardone, Roberts, Finkelman, Fellela, and O'Brien Date Introduced: June 13, 2023 Referred To: House read and passed WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of many a Coventry student, Steven Lukowicz 1 began his compassionate and dedicated career in the field of education as a teacher in Coventry’s 2 public schools in 1986; and 3 WHEREAS, Holding a myriad of positions during his tenure as an educator, Mr. 4 Lukowicz taught life science at Coventry Middle School for seven years until transferring to 5 Coventry High School in 1994, where he has remained for more than three decades; and 6 WHEREAS, During his tenure at the High School, Mr. Lukowicz formed strong bonds 7 with both students and staff. In addition to his teaching duties, he coached football and mentored 8 more than twenty-five student teachers and served as an informal mentor to dozens of science, 9 mathematics, and business colleagues by sharing his lesson plans and teaching strategies; and 10 WHEREAS, During the school’s decennial accreditation process from the New England 11 Association of Schools and Colleges, Mr. Lukowicz served as co-chairperson, and thanks to his 12 diligent and punctilious efforts, the school’s accreditation was renewed for ten years and earned 13 forty-one commendations; and 14 WHEREAS, In 2017, having earned the respect of his peers, Mr. Lukowicz was named 15 Chair of the Science Department. As Chair, he is credited with increasing the school’s NGSA 16 science test scores, initiating more pathway programs for students, and spearheading efforts to 17 streamline the science, business, and technology curriculums; and 18 WHEREAS, Extraordinary people never retire, they just begin a new chapter of their 19 LC002965 - Page 2 of 2 lives. Such is the case with Steven Lukowicz who will be enjoying some much-deserved time at 1 Bonnet Shores Beach in the summer, becoming a “snowbird” during Rhode Island’s long winter 2 months, and perhaps tackling a few items on his wife’s honey-do list; and 3 WHEREAS, Steven Lukowicz, by virtue of his numerous and selfless accomplishments, 4 serves as a model for all our educational leaders; now, therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby 6 honors and commends Steven Lukowicz on his retirement after thirty-seven years of devoted 7 service to decades of young people and the Coventry School Department. We thank him for all 8 his efforts and wish him good health, fulfillment and much success in all his future endeavors; 9 and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 11 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Steven Lukowicz. 12 ======== LC002965 ========
