2023 -- S 0004 ======== LC000078 ======== S TATE OF RHODE IS LAND IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2023 ____________ S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N CONGRATULATING AND HONORING FRANK CARPA NO ON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE RHODE ISLAND RAD IO AND TELEVISION HALL OF FAME Introduced By: Senators Ruggerio, Pearson, Goodwin, Felag, F Lombardi, Brito, LaMountain, Mack, Lombardo, and Lawson Date Introduced: January 10, 2023 Referred To: Recommended for Immediate Consideration WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame annually recognizes 1 the leadership, dedication and achievements of longstanding on-air radio and television 2 contributors who have not only risen to the top of their careers, but have also earned distinction 3 and the respect of their peers and the citizens of Rhode Island; and 4 WHEREAS, Frank Carpano’s love for sports broadcasting began in high school with his 5 dad driving him to and from his work at the local radio station. In 1980, he joined the staff at 6 NBC 10, and since 1984, has been the beloved sports director and primary sports anchor, 7 informing avid fans on Super Bowls, Stanley Cups, World Series championships, as well as local 8 college and high school sports, and Little League championships; and 9 WHEREAS, In addition to his time on the air at NBC, Mr. Carpano has also been a fill-in 10 sports anchor at WNBC-TV in New York City, served as play-by-play announcer for local 11 colleges and high schools games including Brown University football, Providence College 12 hockey and as the announcer at the Providence Dunkin & Donuts Center for PC’s basketball 13 games, and as a Championship Boxing ring announcer; and 14 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Carpano has been honored with 15 myriad accolades and tributes including being a two-time Olympic torch carrier and the recipient 16 of a New England Emmy for his series of reports on his preparation for the torch run. He has also 17 been a 12-time National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters “Sportscaster of the 18 Year”, and was inducted as a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – 19 LC000078 - Page 2 of 2 Boston/New England Chapter Silver Circle; and 1 WHEREAS, Frank Carpano’s career is eminently deserving of the accolades and regard 2 he has been afforded and is worthy of our recognition and admiration; now, therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby joins the family, 4 friends, and many fans in honoring Frank Carpano, on behalf of all Rhode Islanders, for his 5 eloquent and informative career and his 2022 induction into the Rhode Island Radio and 6 Television Hall of Fame; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to 8 transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Frank Carpano. 9 ======== LC000078 ========
