Section 42-56-17 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-56 entitled "Corrections 1 Department" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 42-56-17. Identification and description of inmates. 3 (a) The director of corrections, or his or her designee, shall cause prisoners confined under 4 sentence in the adult correctional institutions to be physically and factually described in accordance 5 with accepted criminal identification standards for the identification of criminals. The director of 6 corrections, or his or her designee, shall cause identification to be made by a person or persons in 7 the official service of the state, and shall prescribe rules and regulations for keeping accurate 8 records at those institutions, and for classifying and indexing the records. 9 (b) The department of corrections shall collect the following information from individuals 10 entering its custody: sex, race, nativity (country of origin), ethnicity, and level of education, and 11 publish a summary of such information on an annual basis. 12 SECTION 2.
