RELATING TO MOTOR AN D OTHER VEHICLES -- REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 31-3-11 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-3 entitled "Registration 1
of Vehicles" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2
31-3-11. Contents of registration plate. 3
(a) Every registration plate shall have displayed upon it the registration number assigned 4
to the vehicle for which it is issued, the name of the state of Rhode Island along the top, which may 5
be abbreviated “R.I.”, and the year number for which it is issued or the date of its expiration. 6
Registration plates shall also have printed on them along the bottom the words, “ocean state”. 7
(b) The provision requiring the printing of the words “ocean state” on along the bottom of 8
these plates shall not only pertain to commercial private passenger plates. or to plates issued to 9
recipients of the Purple Heart Registration plates for all other plate types shall have the plate type 10
printed on the plate along the bottom. 11
