Lombardi, Lawson, Ciccone, DiPalma, Acosta, DiMario, and Tikoian Date Introduced: March 22, 2023 Referred To: Senate Special Legislation and Veterans Affairs (Secretary of State) It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: SECTION 1. Section 22-3-12 of the General Laws in Chapter 22-3 entitled "Organization 1 of General Assembly" is hereby amended to read as follows: 2 22-3-12. Legislative manual Government directory. 3 The secretary of state shall prepare in each odd-numbered year a legislative manual 4 maintain an up-to-date online directory of government officials for the use of the general assembly 5 public, containing the congressional delegation, general officers, general assembly members, rolls 6 of general assembly membership, the committees, the rules and orders, judiciary information, 7 municipal government information, state agency information and any other matter that the secretary 8 may think proper. The number of manuals to be printed and bound will be determined by the 9 secretary of state. Ten (10) copies shall be distributed to each of the senators and representatives of 10 the general assembly; forty (40) copies shall be placed at the disposal of the governor; and the 11 remainder shall be placed in the hands of the secretary of state. There shall be appropriated in each 12 odd numbered year, an amount sufficient to cover the cost of printing and binding of the manual. 13 The secretary of state shall also provide a printed government directory referencing the online 14 directory information to be printed and bound in a number to be determined by the secretary of 15 state for distribution and historical preservation purposes only. Entities included in the online 16 directory will be responsible for submitting up-to-date information. Users of the online directory 17 shall have access to all directory information and be provided with historical search capabilities so 18 LC001565/SUB A - Page 2 of 3 that the entire history of the online directory is made available to the public. 1 SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on January 1, 2024. 2 ======== LC001565/SUB A ======== LC001565/SUB A - Page 3 of 3 EXPLANATION BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL OF A N A C T RELATING TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY -- ORGANIZATION OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY *** This act would require the secretary of state to maintain, and provide to the public, an 1 online directory of government officials, a limited number of printed government directories, and 2 would eliminate the legislative manual used by the secretary of state to record rolls of general 3 assembly membership, committee memberships and rules. 4 This act would take effect on January 1, 2024. 5 ======== LC001565/SUB A ========
