RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- ABUSE IN HEALTHCARE FACILITIES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION 1. Chapter 23-17.8 of the General Laws entitled "Abuse in Healthcare 1
Facilities" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2
23-17.8-2.1. Immigration status of patient. 3
It shall be violation of the provisions of this chapter for any personnel in any healthcare 4
facility, including any hospital, emergency or urgent care facility, to ask any patient their 5
immigration status or to ask the patient to present proof of their legal presence in the United States. 6
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. 7
