A house RESOLUTION TO CELEBRATE THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE two hundredth ANNIVERSARY OF First Baptist Church of Gaston AND TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR the pastor AND THE CONGREGATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE Gaston COMMUNITY. Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that First Baptist Church of Gaston celebrated its bicentennial anniversary on August 25, 2024; and Whereas, First Baptist Church of Gaston was started in 1824 as Sandy Run Baptist Church. For two centuries, the church has met in five different buildings with all but one of those buildings at its current location; and Whereas, the believers of First Baptist Church of Gaston have been committed for two hundred years to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ and to spreading the gospel around the world; and Whereas, following the example of Christ who reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds, the church provides ministries geared to various life stages and needs, including studying the Scriptures, fellowshipping together, and ministering to others through numerous service opportunities; and Whereas, the purpose of these ministries is to strengthen the faith of believers in Christ as the congregation continues to honor its commitment to the motto of being "The Caring Place" by caring for the message of Christ in a modern world, caring for the church family and the community, and caring for those searching for answers, a place to belong, and a family to worship, fellowship and grow with; and Whereas, for two hundred years, the church has been thankful for the many blessings God has poured out on the church, and the faithful members look with excitement to what great things He has yet to do; and Whereas, the House of Representatives commends First Baptist Church of Gaston for two centuries of ministry in and service to the Gaston community and extends warmest congratulations on the occasion of the church's historic anniversary as the members of the congregation continue to sing the words of a favorite hymn, "Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me." Now, therefore, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: That, by this resolution, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives celebrate the joyous occasion of the two hundredth anniversary of First Baptist Church and congratulate and honor the pastor and the congregation for their years of dedicated service to the Gaston community. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Brady Henderson. ----XX----
