An Act to allow additional forms to verify military service for a veteran designation 1
on a commercial driver license or commercial learner's permit. 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: 3
Section 1. That § 32-12A-20.2 be AMENDED: 4
32-12A-20.2. A designation that the licensee is a veteran shall must be indicated 5
on the a commercial driver license or a commercial learner's permit issued pursuant to 6
this chapter if the licensee or permit holder: 7
(1) Is an honorably discharged veteran having served in the armed forces of the United 8
States Is a veteran as defined in § 33A-1-1; 9
(2) Has requested the designation on the license or permit; and 10
(3) Has provided proof of the veteran's military service and honorable discharge by 11
either submitting the U.S. military Form DD-214, DD-Form 2 (Retired), DD-Form 12
2A (Reserve Retired), or a certificate signed by a county veterans service officer 13
on a form prescribed by the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs 14
submitting to the department: 15
(a) A certificate signed by a county veterans service officer on a form prescribed 16
by the Department of Veterans Affairs; 17
(b) National Guard Form NGB-22; 18
(c) A Uniformed Services Identification card; 19
(d) United States military Form DD-2; 20
(e) United States military Form DD-2A; or 21
(f) United States military Form DD-214. 22
