An Act to require that a school curriculum include human growth and development 1
within the health curriculum. 2
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: 3
Section 1. That a NEW SECTION be added to chapter 13-33: 4
The board of each school district shall ensure that the health curriculum offered to 5
students, beginning in grade three, incorporates, by means of oral, written, or digital 6
lessons, or by means of lectures or presentations, information about human biology as it 7
relates to pregnancy and human development inside the womb. The information must 8
include: 9
(1) A high-definition ultrasound video that has a duration of at least three minutes and 10
shows the fetal development of the brain, heart, sex organs, and other vital organs; 11
and 12
(2) A video that shows the process of fertilization and each stage of human 13
development in the uterus, including cell growth and organ development until the 14
time of birth. 15
