An Act to permit merit pay as a component of teacher compensation. 1
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA: 2
Section 1. That a NEW SECTION be added to chapter 13-13: 3
A salary schedule established by the board of a school district for teachers must 4
reflect: 5
(1) Demand for the teacher's area of certification in the school district, geographic 6
region, or state; 7
(2) The highest degree and additional credit hours held by the teacher; and 8
(3) The teacher's years of experience. 9
In addition to any amount provided for on the salary schedule, a teacher is entitled 10
to receive merit pay in the amount established by the board. 11
