HB 626 – SB 833 FISCAL NOTE Fiscal Review Committee Tennessee General Assembly February 11, 2025 Fiscal Analyst: Natalie Dusek | Email: natalie.dusek@capitol.tn.gov | Phone: 615-741-2564 HB 626 – SB 833 SUMMARY OF BILL: Requires a law enforcement officer who becomes aware that an order of protection has been entered against a person in the officer’s presence, but the person has not been served with the order of protection, to take appropriate steps to facilitate service of the order, including notifying the sheriff’s department of the person’s immediate location and any other information that may assist in the service of the order. Requires the curriculum of the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) to include instruction on these requirements. FISCAL IMPACT: NOT SIGNIFICANT Assumptions: • It is assumed that law enforcement officers can assist in the service of orders of protection in such circumstances in the normal course of business within existing resources. • The POST commission is housed within the Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI). Based on information previously received from the DCI, any fiscal impact to the department or the commission to incorporate the training is estimated to be not significant. • Any fiscal impact to state or local government is estimated to be not significant.
