<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 163 By Lamberth HJR0163 001545 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of Phillip Fulmer to the board of directors of the Tennessee education lottery corporation. WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 4-51-101, provides for the creation of the Tennessee education lottery corporation; and WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 4-51-103, provides that the governor shall appoint seven members to the board of directors of the Tennessee education lottery corporation; and WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Phillip Fulmer to serve as a member of the board of directors of the Tennessee education lottery corporation for a term that will expire on June 30, 2027; and WHEREAS, Phillip "Phil" Fulmer, Sr., is a former football player, football coach, athletic director, and special advisor to the president at the University of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, Phillip Fulmer served as head coach of the University of Tennessee football team from 1992-2008, compiling a 152-52 record and leading the Volunteers to a national championship, two conference titles, and seven divisional crowns; and WHEREAS, truly an icon of the Volunteer State, Coach Fulmer was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2012; and WHEREAS, Coach Fulmer has served as the national spokesperson for the Jason Foundation, Inc., an organization dedicated to the prevention of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs for at-risk youth; and WHEREAS, he currently serves as chair of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame board of directors; and - 2 - 001545 WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 4-51-103(f), provides that each member appointed by the governor to the board of directors of the Tennessee education lottery corporation shall be confirmed by joint resolution of the general assembly; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we confirm the appointment of Phillip Fulmer to the board of directors of the Tennessee education lottery corporation for a term that will expire on June 30, 2027.
