A RESOLUTION to recognize and commend the founding of the 
Major David Wilson Chapter of The Sons of the 
American Revolution. 
 
 WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing 
those outstanding civic organizations and their members who work with purpose, commitment, 
and enthusiasm to promote patriotism and preserve America's panoramic history and heritage; 
and 
 WHEREAS, one such worthy organization is the Major David Wilson Chapter of The 
Sons of the American Revolution, which was granted a charter on January 25, 2025, by the 
Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution Board of Governors at their regional 
meeting in Jackson; and 
 WHEREAS, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a patriotic, historical, and 
educational organization composed of male descendants of those who supported the American 
Revolution; members can trace their lineage back to individuals who either fought in the 
Revolutionary War, served in the Continental Congress, or contributed in other ways to the 
cause of American Independence; and 
 WHEREAS, the SAR was established in 1889 and has grown to include chapters across 
the United States and internationally, playing a key role in fostering a deeper understanding of 
American history and honoring the legacy of those who fought for independence; the SAR is 
also involved in the preservation of history, education, patriotic activities, and community 
service; and 
 WHEREAS, the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR is named in honor of a native of 
North Carolina who enlisted in the Rowan County Regiment of the North Carolina Militia under

Colonel Francis Locke; his journey in the Revolutionary War was distinguished by his 
participation in several critical battles and engagements; and 
 WHEREAS, later in life, Major Wilson moved to what is now Sumner County, where he 
was very involved in local government and served as the first Speaker of the House for the 
territory that would later become the State of Tennessee; he is also the namesake of Wilson 
County; and 
 WHEREAS, the first officers of the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR were sworn 
in on February 15, 2025, in a ceremony in Lebanon; the founding members of this newly 
established chapter are George Richard Bouton, Eugene Wade Bland, Isaac Lewis Bland, John 
Robert Emmert, James Howard Jordan, James Howard Murff, Edward Wayne Patton, Jerry 
Allen Vance, and Dannell Bennett Waters; and 
 WHEREAS, the charter members of the Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR are 
Haywood St. Clair Barry, William Rex Bouton, Damon Clark Boyd, Paul Wayne Devine, Robert 
Coleman Fields, James Bradley Jordan, Jon Todd Hannah, Daniel Edward Hardison, David 
Floyd Howell, Jerry Gordon Hughes, James Chase Lannom, James David Peyton, David Melvin 
Roberts, Dwight Groom Saddler, Raymond Shane Stroud, Paul Calvert Stumb, Bruce Carleton 
Taylor, Eddie Linn Tomlinson, James Christopher Vance, Kevin Oakley Vance, Michael Ryan 
Vance, Timothy Owen White, and William O'Neill Whisenant; and 
 WHEREAS, the newly established Major David Wilson Chapter of the SAR is dedicated 
to preserving American history and fostering patriotism, and it is wholly fitting that this worthy 
organization should be honored at this time; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE O F REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED 
FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE 
CONCURRING, that we recognize and commend the founding of the Major David Wilson 
Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, expressing our gratitude to its members for

their commitment to honoring the legacy of those who fought for American independence and 
extending our best wishes for every continued success in the future. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
