<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 643 By Hicks G HJR0643 007298 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Reverend Kenneth Paul Luckadoo. WHEREAS, we were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Reverend Kenneth Paul Luckadoo of Tazewell; and WHEREAS, born on June 24, 1942, to Syllus Luckadoo and Shirley Luckadoo, Reverend Kenneth Luckadoo, as a teenager, had already begun his journey in preaching before he went off to attend Carson-Newman University for a year and then graduate from Lincoln Memorial University; and WHEREAS, ordained at Shawanee Baptist Church, Reverend Luckadoo began his first pastorate in his early twenties, leading the people of Tazewell Baptist Church in godliness and devotion; however, he soon heard the call to act as pastor of Gills Chapel Baptist Church in Mooresburg; and WHEREAS, Reverend Luckadoo served as pastor at Gills Chapel Baptist Church for over fifty years, laying a cornerstone that will be built upon for years to come, and ultimately retired with a full life of prayerful mission completed; and WHEREAS, he was known as a man of God and led his people, both longtime believers and those newly entering the fold, to discover the graces in this pilgrimage, and he confirmed and comforted his people in faith, whether marking the new beginnings of baptisms or commemorating at funerals those who have fallen asleep; and WHEREAS, dedicated to serving those entrusted to him with a shepherd's care, Reverend Luckadoo traveled 100 miles roundtrip to reach his congregation every Sunday; and - 2 - 007298 WHEREAS, his constant concern and Christ-like compassion extended to his second vocation in education, where he exhibited his multifarious talents in positions as a principal, a grade school teacher, and a high school director of maintenance; and WHEREAS, teaching in the coal camps of Claiborne County, Reverend Luckadoo committed himself to fostering a love of learning and personal development in the impoverished children he encountered, some of whom lacked even electricity; and WHEREAS, in addition to his good work from the pulpit and beyond, Reverend Luckadoo was wholly devoted to his family and friends, and he is still cherished and remembered by his beloved wife, Eula Grey Luckadoo; his daughter, Robin (Mike) Morrell; his sons, Scott (Vickey) Luckadoo and Kevin Luckadoo; his grandchildren, Ashley (Jared) Anderson, Luarie (Zac) Parrott, Adam Morrell, Katrina (Brandon) Nantz, Kelsey (Isaiah) Mullens, Kendra (Ethen) Massengill, Chase Luckadoo, Katie Luckadoo, Nathaniel Luckadoo, and Owen Luckadoo; his eleven great-grandchildren; and many others whose lives he touched; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Luckadoo; and WHEREAS, Reverend Luckadoo served his faith and his community with distinction for more than six decades, and he should be remembered for his many contributions and the example he set for others; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Reverend Kenneth Paul Luckadoo, reflecting fondly upon his resolute service to God and humanity and extending our sympathy and condolences to his family and many friends.
