<BillNo> <Sponsor> HOUSE RESOLUTION 63 By Behn HR0063 003558 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Melody Walker upon winning her first Grammy Award. WHEREAS, it is our privilege to recognize those citizens whose devotion to craft and artistic integrity not only result in exceptional art but also inspire people throughout this State and beyond; and WHEREAS, one such individual is Melody Walker of Nashville, who took home the Best American Roots Song Grammy Award for her song "American Dreaming" at the 67 th Annual Grammy Awards; and WHEREAS, "American Dreaming" was co-written with and performed by Sierra Ferrell, who also won this year's Grammy for Best Americana Album, Trail of Flowers, which included three songs co-written with Ms. Walker; and WHEREAS, she has also penned songs with Della Mae and Molly Tuttle, the latter of whom won the Best Bluegrass Album Grammy Award in 2023 for Crooked Tree, which featured four co-writes with Ms. Walker; and WHEREAS, in addition to her masterful songwriting, Melody Walker is a producer and a performer, often lauded for her stunning, soulful vocals; prior to devoting herself primarily to co- writing and solo projects, she released three albums with her band, Front Country; and WHEREAS, Melody Walker is also a community builder, teacher, and advocate; she founded and hosts a weekly songwriter round, Writers' Kitchen, in East Nashville and has taught at music camps; and WHEREAS, a fervent believer that songs can change the world, she is well on her way to bearing out the truth of this belief; and - 2 - 003558 WHEREAS, it is most fitting that we honor Ms. Walker on this auspicious occasion; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and congratulate Melody Walker upon her first Grammy win, extending to her our best wishes for every continued success. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
