SUMMARY OF BILL: Beginning with the election for board of education members held in
2028, requires all members of the board of education to be elected at the same election. In order to
align the terms of the members, requires the members elected in the first election occurring on or
after January 1, 2026, to be elected to two-year terms.
FISCAL IMPACT:
NOT SIGNIFICANT
Assumptions:
• The consolidation of elections will coincide with existing elections and the required space
on the ballot for the additional names is anticipated to be minimal. Therefore, any impact to
the Secretary of State is estimated to be not significant.
• Local boards of education will be able to comply with the changes to board member
elections within existing resources such that any fiscal impact is estimated to be not
significant.
