SUMMARY OF BILL: Requires the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) to study the
need for a new juvenile detention facility in the Western Grand Division that would serve the
detention and treatment needs of juveniles. Requires DCS to report its findings and
recommendations to certain legislative committees by January 1, 2026.
FISCAL IMPACT:
NOT SIGNIFICANT
Assumptions:
• The required study will be carried out by DCS utilizing existing resources and personnel,
and will therefore result in no significant fiscal impact.
• The DCS will be able to report its findings and recommendations to the applicable
committees by January 1, 2026, without any increase in state expenditures.
