SB 565 - HB 914

SUMMARY OF BILL: Requires each local education agency (LEA) and public charter
school to review any new curricula recommended by the Joint Task Force on Children's Justice and
Child Sexual Abuse (Task Force) prior to the start of each school year.

FISCAL IMPACT:

NOT SIGNIFICANT

 Assumptions:

• Pursuant to Tenn. Code. Ann. § 49-6-1304, the Task Force is required to annually
recommend to the Department of Education (DOE) age-appropriate curricula that LEAs
and public charter schools may use to provide instruction on the detection, intervention,
prevention, and treatment of child sexual abuse, human trafficking, and internet crimes
against children. The DOE is required to annually notify LEAs and public charter schools
of the curricula recommended by the Task Force.
• LEAs will be able to review any new curricula recommended by the Task Force prior to the
start of each school year within existing resources. Any fiscal impact is estimated to be not
significant.
