SUMMARY OF BILL: Requires a metals recycling facility to post a specified notice at each
public entrance to the facility.
FISCAL IMPACT:
NOT SIGNIFICANT
Assumptions:
• Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-17-1403, a metals recycling facility shall post in a
conspicuous location a certain notice that is readily visible to all persons selling materials to
the facility. A violation of this law is a Class B misdemeanor.
• The proposed legislation requires the notice to be posted at each public entrance to the
metals recycling facility.
• The proposed legislation does not expand the offense; it specifies where the required notice
must be posted.
• There is not expected to be a change in the number of convictions or the time spent in local
jails by such offenders. Therefore, the fiscal impact to local government is not significant
