FISCAL IMPACT: NOT SIGNIFICANT Assumptions: • Any necessary rule changes by boards under the Division of Health-Related Boards can be accommodated within the appropriate board’s regularly-scheduled meetings at no additional cost. • Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-15-213(b), criminal abortion is a Class C felony. • The proposed legislation creates an exception for the offense of criminal abortion if the abortion is performed or attempted by a licensed physician in a patient whose pregnancy was the result of aggravated rape; rape; rape of a child; especially aggravated rape; especially aggravated rape of a child; or incest. • There will not be a sufficient change in the number of prosecutions for state or local government to experience any significant change in revenue or expenditures. • Any impact to the court system as a result of the proposed legislation is estimated to be not significant.
