FISCAL IMPACT: NOT SIGNIFICANT Assumptions: • Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-3803(a), materials in a school library collection are required to be suitable for the age and maturity levels of the students who may access the materials and must be suitable for, and consistent with, the educational mission of the school. • Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-3803(d) through (g), each local board of education and public charter school governing body is required to adopt a policy for developing and reviewing a school’s library collections, and to establish procedures for the removal of materials found to be inappropriate from a library collection. • Local boards of education and public charter school governing bodies will be able to update their policies pursuant to the removal of materials from a school library collection within existing resources such that any fiscal impact is estimated to be not significant.
