SUMMARY OF BILL:    Adds housing as a topic that must be included in the Department of 
Correction’s (DOC) orientation concerning relevant post-release or parole issues. 
 
 
FISCAL IMPACT: 
NOT SIGNIFICANT 
  
 
 Assumptions: 
 
• Pursuant to Tenn. Code Ann. § 40-35-505, before the release of an inmate, the DOC shall 
conduct an orientation for the inmate concerning relevant post-release or parole issues. As a 
part of the DOC’s existing orientation program, the orientation shall address issues of 
restoration of citizenship, voting and the availability of services relating to education, 
employment, family and child support. 
• The proposed legislation adds housing as a topic that must be included in the Department’s 
orientation program. 
• DOC can include the additional topic in its orientation within existing resources. 
• The proposed legislation will not significantly impact state or local government operations.  
• Any fiscal impact will be not significant.
