A RESOLUTION to recognize Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain 
on the occasion of his retirement. 
 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that we specially recognize those estimable public servants who 
have dedicated themselves to improving the quality of life for their fellow citizens; and 
WHEREAS, Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain is one such estimable person who 
evinces the greatest integrity and probity in all his chosen endeavors; and 
WHEREAS, a longtime public servant, Mr. Brittain served as Mayor of Hamblen County 
since his election in 2010, and he subsequently won reelection to that esteemed position since 
that time; and 
WHEREAS, he has taken his much-deserved retirement from Hamblen County 
Government on October 1, 2024, following nearly thirty-one years of service to his community; 
and 
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished tenure, Mayor Bill Brittain provided solid 
leadership and thoughtful guidance for his fellow citizens; and 
WHEREAS, among his many achievements in office, Mayor Brittain facilitated the safety 
of Hamblen County citizens and stewarded the Hamblen County Justice Center Project, which 
featured a new facility that opened this year; and 
WHEREAS, prior to his service as Mayor of Hamblen County, Bill Brittain served as 
County Trustee for Hamblen County, a position he held since 1994; and 
WHEREAS, he attended Walters State Community College from 1976 to 1978 and 
earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from the University of Tennessee, 
Knoxville in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Bill Brittain is a strong advocate for the citizens of Hamblen County; his 
remarkable success as a civic leader is directly attributable to his reliance on the time-honored 
values of hard work and common sense and his uncommon ability to work well with people from 
all walks of life; and 
WHEREAS, Mayor Brittain is wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service 
that have earned Tennessee recognition as the Volunteer State, and he should be specially 
recognized; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF 
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we commend Bill Brittain for his honorable and 
astute service to the good people of Tennessee as Mayor of Hamblen County, salute his 
unswerving commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction, and extend our 
best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to 
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear 
without House or Senate designation.
