<BillNo> <Sponsor> SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 84 By Lamar SJR0084 003198 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Leadership Preparatory Charter School upon its receipt of the 2024 Charter Champion Award for School of the Year. WHEREAS, it is fitting that we pay tribute to those educational institutions that, through the natural talents and unflagging commitment to academic excellence evidenced by their administration, faculty, staff, and students, have proven themselves to be among the best schools in the State; and WHEREAS, Leadership Preparatory Charter School in Memphis is one such exemplary institution, which was recently recognized by the Tennessee Charter School Center as the recipient of the 2024 Charter Champion Award for School of the Year; and WHEREAS, this prestigious award is given to a public charter school that offers an excellent example of utilizing the flexibility and innovative nature of a charter school model to innovate and have a significant positive impact on students; and WHEREAS, founded in 2015 and led by Valissia Allen, Leadership Preparatory Charter School has established itself as one of Tennessee's most successful schools for economically disadvantaged (ED) students; the school serves over 400 students, the majority of whom come from historically underserved low-income backgrounds yet consistently perform at levels far above the State average; and WHEREAS, Leadership Preparatory Charter School has evolved into a data-driven institution that continually adjusts its approach to meet students' needs; and WHEREAS, utilizing the nimbleness of a charter school model, Leadership Preparatory Charter School was able to iterate on its instructional practices and implement a more flexible, - 2 - 003198 tailored learning model with an emphasis on data-driven instruction, which has resulted in exceptional performance for ED students; and WHEREAS, in English Language Arts, forty-two percent of Leadership Preparatory Charter School's ED students meet or exceed standards, placing the school in the top nine percent of all Tennessee public schools; similarly, thirty-seven percent of its students meet or exceed math standards, ranking it in the top nineteen percent statewide; and WHEREAS, the strategies employed to support this student success were highlighted in a case study from the Tennessee Charter School Center, offering access to best practices that can be employed in any school; and WHEREAS, the administration, faculty, and staff of Leadership Preparatory Charter School have built an environment that ensures students have the very best atmosphere for learning; and WHEREAS, Leadership Preparatory Charter School's receipt of the 2024 Charter Champion Award for School of the Year is a tremendous source of pride for its administration, teachers, students, parents, and community; and WHEREAS, the dedication to academic excellence demonstrated by all the fine individuals affiliated with Leadership Preparatory Charter School is clearly deserving of our respect, admiration, and commendation; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE O NE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we congratulate Leadership Preparatory Charter School upon its receipt of the 2024 Charter Champion Award for School of the Year by the Tennessee Charter School Center, salute the school's administration, faculty, staff, and students on this prestigious award, and extend to them our best wishes for much continued success. - 3 - 003198 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
