A RESOLUTION to confirm the appointment of Dimeta Smith
Knight to the state university board of
Tennessee State University.
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-101, provides for the governance
of Tennessee State University by a state university board; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-201, provides that the governor
shall appoint eight members to the state university board of Tennessee State University; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-201, further provides that at least
three of the gubernatorial appointees shall be alumni of the institution for which they are serving
and that at least six of the nine voting members of the state university board shall be residents
of the State of Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Governor Bill Lee has appointed Dimeta Smith Knight to the state university
board of Tennessee State University for a term that will expire on March 31, 2028; and
WHEREAS, a Nashville native, Dimeta Smith Knight graduated from Tennessee State
University (TSU) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting; she
received her master's degree in accounting from Belmont University in 2001; and
WHEREAS, she operates her own practice, Dimeta Smith, CPA LLC, through which she
offers a broad range of services for business owners, executives, and independent
professionals and provides traditional accounting and consulting services in nontraditional ways;
and
WHEREAS, Dimeta Smith Knight returned to her alma mater to serve as an adjunct
professor at TSU from 2009-2017; and

WHEREAS, Dimeta Smith Knight is a member of the board of directors for the
Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSPCA) and was honored with the 2023
TSCPApex Special Recognition Award by that organization; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 49-8-201, provides that each member
appointed by the governor to the state university board of Tennessee State University shall be
subject to confirmation by the senate and the house of representatives; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we confirm the appointment of Dimeta Smith Knight
to the state university board of Tennessee State University for a term that will expire on March
31, 2028.
