<BillNo> <Sponsor> SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 335 By Oliver SJR0335 006240 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Action Network. WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly pay tribute to those exemplary organizations that work with purpose and conviction to improve the quality of life in their respective communities; and WHEREAS, one such esteemed organization is the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Action Network, a grassroots effort that has worked tirelessly to address local issues, champion social justice, and promote equality; and WHEREAS, on May 15, 2025, the chapter will host the 2 nd Annual Black Diamond Ball, an event that promises to inspire, empower, and drive positive change while celebrating equality, diversity, and social justice and WHEREAS, founded in 1991 by Reverend Al Sharpton, the National Action Network (NAN) is one of the leading civil rights organizations in the country, with chapters throughout the United States; the organization works within the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to promote a modern civil rights agenda that includes the fight for one standard of justice, decency, and equal opportunities for all people; and WHEREAS, the Middle Tennessee Chapter of NAN is dedicated to the pursuit of justice, equality, and human rights for all citizens; the chapter is guided by a mission to empower individuals and communities to actively engage in the fight against discrimination, bigotry, and systemic injustice; and WHEREAS, the chapter is devoted to promoting criminal justice reform, supporting police accountability, upholding voting rights, assisting with crisis intake and victim assistance, and advocating for youth leadership; and - 2 - 006240 WHEREAS, the initiatives of the Middle Tennessee Chapter of NAN often lead to the creation of supportive networks, educational opportunities, and essential resources for marginalized communities; and WHEREAS, the chapter strives to cultivate a sense of belonging and shared purpose among residents, thereby strengthening the social fabric of neighborhoods; by raising awareness, mobilizing resources, and influencing policies, activists inspire individuals to engage in meaningful dialogue, challenge injustice, and contribute to the betterment of the community; and WHEREAS, community activism is the cornerstone of a vibrant, inclusive society, driving positive transformations and fostering a sense of unity among its members; it is most fitting that we recognize this important organization and its continued good work; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Action Network, commending the chapter's role in fostering positive change throughout the State. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
