A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Commander Anthony 
William McClain of the Metropolitan Nashville 
Police Department.  
 
 WHEREAS, the members of this legislative body were greatly saddened to learn of the 
passing of Commander Anthony William McClain of the Metropolitan Nashville Police 
Department on March 9, 2025; and 
 WHEREAS, Commander McClain was an exemplary public servant and consummate 
professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in 
numerous capacities; and 
 WHEREAS, born on September 25, 1971, Commander Anthony McClain was a twenty-
seven-year veteran of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and had served as the 
head of operations at the North Precinct since May 1, 2021; and  
 WHEREAS, a proud military veteran, Commander McClain served in the United States 
Air Force from 1989 to 1994 before attending Tennessee State University, where he graduated 
with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in May 1997; and  
 WHEREAS, in August 1997, he was hired by the Metropolitan Nashville Police 
Department as an officer trainee and graduated from the training academy in December of that 
same year; and  
 WHEREAS, he served as a patrolman at the Central Precinct and as a detective in the 
Domestic Violence and Sex Abuse units prior to his promotion to sergeant in 2007; as a 
sergeant, he supervised shifts at the East, South, North, and Central Precincts; and  
 WHEREAS, in 2012, Commander McClain was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to 
lead patrol details at the North, South, and West Precincts before his transfer to supervise the 
Specialized Investigations Division's Narcotics Unit in 2019; and

 WHEREAS, he was promoted to captain of the department's newly created Special 
Victims Division in December 2020 before assuming command of the North Precinct in 2021; 
and  
 WHEREAS, Commander Anthony McClain leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity 
and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in 
all his chosen endeavors; and 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this legislative body should pause to 
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOU RTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor the memory of 
Commander Anthony William McClain, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his 
stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences 
to the family of Commander McClain. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
