A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Alyssa Trent upon 
being named the winner in the 9-12 grade 
category of the 2024 Tennessee Secretary of 
State's civics essay contest. 
 
 WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this legislative body should pay tribute to 
those civic-minded students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to 
academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom and their community; and 
 WHEREAS, Alyssa Trent is one such exceptional student, who was recently named the 
winner in the 9-12 grade category of the 2024 Tennessee Secretary of State's civics essay 
contest; and 
 WHEREAS, the theme for the essay contest was "Why Trusted Sources Matter"; 
through participation in the contest, students became better informed of their important roles as 
citizens of the great State of Tennessee; and 
 WHEREAS, a student at Lawrence County High School, where she is highly regarded by 
her peers, Alyssa Trent has achieved academic success and has readied herself to become an 
active and conscientious citizen; and 
 WHEREAS, Ms. Trent will be presented a TN Stars 529 Scholarship in the amount of 
$500 at the luncheon and awards ceremony hosted by the Secretary of State on April 3, 2025; 
and  
 WHEREAS, her display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for her 
future success; and 
 WHEREAS, Alyssa Trent's noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride for 
her family, her school, and her community; and

 WHEREAS, Ms. Trent's dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of our respect, 
admiration, and commendation; now, therefore, 
 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH 
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, that we honor and congratulate 
Alyssa Trent upon being named the winner in the 9-12 grade category of the 2024 Tennessee 
Secretary of State's civics essay contest and extend to her our best wishes for every continued 
success and happiness. 
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared 
for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
