The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require that the Department of Public Safety (DPS) adopt procedures which would allow a peace officer to request that his or her residential address be omitted from his or her drivers license. A peace officer would be allowed to use an alternate address that is in the municipality or county of his or her residence on his or her drivers license, provided that he or she present evidence of his or her status as a peace officer, surrender any other driver license, and report a new address, name, or change in status as a peace officer within 30 days. DPS estimates the fiscal and operational costs associated with the modification of existing forms and programming capabilities, as well as the training of personnel, would not be significant to the state or continue beyond initial implementation. This analysis assumes DPS would be able to absorb the fiscal impact within current appropriations.
