O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB1498 by King, Tracy O. (Relating to the information required to be displayed on a license to carry a concealed handgun and the duty of a license holder to keep that information current.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Government Code to add "qualified handgun instructor" to the list of status designates that are eligible to have their status as such described on a concealed handgun license. In addition, the bill would simplify the text of the "Notice of Change of Address or Name" provision, Section 411.181, by referring to the change in status generally, as opposed to listing each status category. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) indicates that programming changes would need to be made to the License to Carry software to automatically generate a new license when an active license holder gains or loses certification, and to implement a new type of suspension and suspension letter for failure to notify the Concealed Handgun Licensing Bureau (CHLB) of a change in status. The Legislative Budget Board (LBB) has determined that the costs of implementing the provisions of this bill could be reasonably absorbed within the agency's current resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated. Source Agencies:405 Department of Public Safety LBB Staff: JOB, ESi, GG, MWU
