LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION March 16, 2009 TO: Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee on Transportation FROM: John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB2434 by Smith, Wayne (Relating to the supervision by the Texas Department of Transportation of money appropriated by the federal government for the construction and maintenance of rail facilities.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Transportation Code to specify that money appropriated or allocated by the United States to a freight rail district, rural rail transportation district, or commuter rail district does not have to be administered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Based on the analysis of TxDOT, it is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the state.
