O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB2517 by Turner, Sylvester (Relating to the dedication of certain civil penalties for violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act to provide civil legal services to the indigent.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Government Code and provides that any funds recovered by the Attorney Generals Office (OAG) as civil penalties pursuant to an action under the Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act are to be credited to the judicial fund for certain approved programs providing civil legal services to the indigent. Based on information provided by the OAG, it is assumed that an extimated $500,000 per fiscal year would be deposited into the judicial fund. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
