                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 81ST LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 3, 2009      TO: Honorable Todd Hunter, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence      FROM: John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB2575 by Gonzalez Toureilles (Relating to the qualifications for service as a grand or petit juror and challenges for cause.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Government Code relating to the qualifications for service as a grand or petit juror and challenges for cause.  The bill would remove the prohibition on jury service by a person convicted of a misdemeanor theft.  To the extent the bill would expand the population of persons eligible to server as jurors, no significant affect on judicial procedures or fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2009. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
