The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code relating to the issuance of a writ of attachment in a civil suit for certain sexual assaults. The bill would authorize the issuance of a writ of attachment in personal injury suits based on conduct that constitutes sexual offenses against a child. The would provide that the writ may be issued in an amount that the court determines to be appropriate to provide for counseling and medical needs of the plaintiff. To the extent the bill would modify court procedures, no affect on judicial workloads or fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2009.
