 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to community outreach to increase awareness of the
 availability of health benefits coverage under the child health
 plan program.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1. Section 62.056, Health and Safety Code, is
 amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (d-1) to
 read as follows:
 (a) The commission shall strengthen its [conduct a]
 community outreach and education campaign to provide information
 relating to the availability of health benefits for children under
 this chapter. The commission shall conduct the campaign in a
 manner that:
 (1) promotes enrollment in, and minimizes duplication
 of effort among, all state-administered child health programs; and
 (2)  focuses on increasing parents' awareness of the
 availability of health benefits coverage for eligible children
 under this chapter.
 (d-1)  In addition to contracting with community-based
 organizations under Subsection (c) to implement the community
 outreach campaign, the commission shall make other efforts to
 strengthen community outreach by fostering partnerships between
 private local businesses and community-based organizations for
 that purpose.
 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
