A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to installing sound barriers and beautification along
certain parts of State Highway 288 in Houston.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 201, Transportation Code,
is amended by adding Section 201.6105 to read as follows:
Sec. 201.6105. SOUND BARRIER ON CERTAIN HIGHWAYS. (a) As
soon as practicable, the department shall erect sound barrier walls
with beautification elements along the east side of State Highway
288 in Houston, from the intersection of State Highway 288 and South
MacGregor Way to the intersection of State Highway 288 and West Orem
Drive.
(b) The sound barriers shall be designed to reduce highway
noise for residences located in the vicinity of State Highway 288.
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
