A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to authorizing an increase in the Intercollegiate
Athletics fee at Texas Southern University.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. (a) The board of regents of Texas Southern
University may impose on each student enrolled in the university
[levy and collect] an Intercollegiate Athletics fee of $10 per
semester credit hour for each semester not to exceed 12 semester
hours for each semester for the purpose of continued development
and maintenance of intercollegiate athletic programs.
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies
beginning with student fees charged by a public institution of
higher education for the 2009-2010 academic year. Student fees
charged by a public institution of higher education for an academic
year before that academic year are covered by the law in effect
before the effective date of this Act, and the former law is
continued in effect for that purpose.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
