Under provisions of the bill, Texas Southern University would be authorized to charge an Intercollegiate Athletics fee up to $10 per semester credit hour (up to 15 hours per semester per student) for the purpose of development and maintenance of intercollegiate athletic programs. The fee could not be imposed or increased unless the amount of the increase is approved by a majority of the students voting in an election held for that purpose or by a majority of the student government of the institution.The University estimates the maximum revenue that could be generated under the bill would be $2,268,660 per year. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
